I joined the business in 1985 having gained a degree in Business Studies and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a national firm. My objective was always to staff in the profession and work in particular with SMEs. I was made a Partner 12 months after joining and some 35 years later many of my clients have become more like friends and in a number of cases, I am now acting for the second generation.
What makes DJH Mitten Clarke great?
We are already a great firm having served clients for over 100 years. Everything about our new partnership has been positive and well received by both clients and the team in Walsall. Our recent move to new modern premises offers improved facilities for everyone.
What’s your most trusted piece of business advice?
Where possible to work on the business rather than in it. I’m not sure I always follow that mantra myself as much as I should but where you put your trust in people they invariably step up to the mark. Creating a business that doesn’t rely on one individual makes it a more valuable asset.
Where can you be found on a Saturday morning?
Probably cutting the lawns either at our house in Shenstone near Lichfield or at our holiday home in North Norfolk.
After that, it could be a number of things. Being Dad to 4 grown-up children and Grandpa to 2, so far, inevitably takes up a large part of the weekend. They may leave home but hopefully for many years to come, Dad, and more to the point Mum, will be asked for our help and advice.
